About Turn 7 Limited
Turn 7 Limited was founded by Callum and Jim McDougall as a specialist Caterham and Motorsport dealership in Yorkshire. Having spent many years in the Caterham and Motorsport industries, the decision was taken during the events of Covid-19 to focus our energy towards turning our passion and experience into a business which can help many likeminded people enjoy the thrill of purist driving and motor racing.
Here is a little about the father/son pairing and what led them to establish Turn 7:
Hello, my name is Callum McDougall
I grew up immersed in the Caterham world. When I was born in 1989 my father was already racing Caterhams and working with my mother who was the Coordinator for all Caterham's in house racing championships. This was a role she fulfilled whilst I grew into my teens, which of course meant many, many weekends of Caterham racing.
In my early working career I would take annual leave from my day job to work for free with Caterham, washing cars and generally annoying the technicians. After six years of working in the retail and banking sectors I joined Caterham Cars as a Sales Executive.
I spent three years working at the sales site in Caterham, Surrey, making up one third of the sales team and finding new homes for nearly 400 Caterhams. During that time Caterham went through a management restructure and re-branding which ultimately brought about my next opportunity.
Two of Caterham's ex-Directors set up a new venture and offered me the challenging role of Sales Manager for their brand new company, Sevens & Classics. Over the next five years I was responsible for growing the business, buying and selling all of our stock, but most importantly, looking after our customers.
In that time I bought and sold over 1000 Caterhams and have been lucky enough to drive almost every model and variation Caterham ever built. Caterhams are my passion, I will never tire of them. I race my current Caterham under the banner of Frugal Racing. I will never be without one.
After six fantastic and successful years at Sevens & Classics, I looked to broaden my horizons and took up the diverse role of Business Development Manager at a well known race team called United Autosports. Here I became immersed in the professional motorsport world and ultimately found myself taking on the task of bringing a budding new Racewear manufacture "HRX" to the UK. For the next three years I set the foundations for HRX to grow their operation internationally as well as managing the entire UK market place.
Having now gained the experience of managing all aspects of rapidly growing business and establishing a good name for myself in the Motorsport world, the fine felt right to take the plunge and begin my own journey.
Hello, my name is Jim McDougall
I am Callum’s father and partner in Turn 7. My background is in accountancy but I have been extensively involved in the motor and motor racing industries during my career, having worked for both mainstream manufacturers and Formula One teams. At my core I have always been an enthusiast for sports and classic cars.
I started racing back in the 1970’s in Minis and have been competing on and off in a variety of cars ever since, attaining a significant number of race wins and championships over the years. I built and raced the first of many Sevens in 1986 and went on to work with Caterham Cars to produce an Assembly Guide for kit builders at that time. In 1991, my former wife Belinda and I took over the co-ordination of the Caterham racing championships which included coming up with the concept for what is now known as the Caterham Academy.
I manage many of the behind the scenes activities of Turn 7 and bring a considerable depth of business experience to the company.
We are based five minutes East of the M1 between Harrogate and York
